31 Days of Less Me, More Jesus [Day 1 of 31]

It’s October 1.  The first day of a new month and new week.  It just seems as if something new should start, huh?

Today, I am starting 31 days of _______with a group of  bloggers.

When October 31 arrives, what would you like to be different in your life?  The answer to that question will fill in the blank for you.

I want to be closer to Jesus.  Not sorta closer, but REALLY closer.  Here’s the verse I hope mirrors my heart at October’s end (and for the rest of my life):  As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:1-2

I want to thirst for my Creator.  I want my soul to pant for His Word.

How can I make this happen? By recognizing that I can’t make it happen. I try to make too much happen (control freak!).  Then, it becomes all about me and twisted and blah!

So, while I am planning and deliberately moving toward Jesus, I am starting with a prayer:  Lord, please meet me right where I am – mess and all.   Help me to seek you.  Help me to delight in you, burning with passion for you and your glory.

Because I grow closer to Jesus by reading His Word and praying, my “deliberate steps” will include….

  • Pray.  Not the prayers I send up in the midst of my day, but an intentional praying.
  • Study the Old Testament and pray with my family daily.  We’re on page 19 in the Long Story Short 
  • Read and study Job, Psalms, and Proverbs with the ladies at my church and pray for the requests of those in my prayer group:  Angie, Elaine, Ashley, Ginny, and Kathleen.
  • Read through Colossians on my own.

I also plan to…

  • Continue reading and discussing the Explicit Gospel with my husband each morning. According to Kindle, we have read 20%.
  • Attend Women of Purpose this Saturday.  (You should, too!)
  • Go on the Walk to Emmaus October 11-14.  (That’s a retreat –  no communicating with the outside world, including my family. Yikes!)
  • Engage with and pray for my care group.  We’re studying the Explicit Gospel too.

While I grow toward less of me, more of Jesus spiritually, I also plan to focus on less of me…period.

I need to lose weight.  I have had some health struggles, but those are lame excuses at this point.  I need to move more and eat less.

Obviously, this won’t happen without some planning and praying…and some more praying.  So, here’s that plan:

  • Train with my husband for the Charlotte Thunder Road Half Marathon.  It’s on November 17.  I’ve completed a half before, but it’s been a year.  It’s time to amp up my morning strolls into jogs again.
  • Eat right.  I know what’s wise and unwise. I just need to apply it.
  • Revisit the best book ever on weight loss:  Made to Crave  

So, October is about spiritual and physical fitness. I hope to blog about this each of the 31 days, except for days on the Emmaus Walk…no communicating, remember?
